swimsense1Adidas recently came out with their miCoach product that athletes can use to track their workouts online and pace themselves while on the run. The small sensor is easily portable and designed for use while working out and can be used with or without an iPod. This came on the heels of Nike’s iPod sport kit that has its own sensor. In conjunction with your iPod it helps track your running goals and distance.

These are both fine devices, but what if swimming is your exercise of choice? Well, it looks like there is a device coming to market for you this holiday season. Finis’s new Swimsense performance monitor ($199.99), worn around the wrist like a watch, “will automatically record: number of laps, total distance, calories burned, lap time, pace, and stroke count.” After the workout you can view the results on the the device or upload it to the Finis website.  Swimsense can even sense what stroke you were using.

“Most fitness enthusiasts and serious athletes who partake in swimming as part of their training routine can’t remember how many laps they swam last week or how many calories they burned,” says John Mix, President of Finis. “With the Swimsense you can easily keep track of that and more. Simply get in the water and go, the Swimsense will automatically capture your entire swim workout as soon as you hit the start button. At the completion of your workout you can view your current swim session and any of your prior workouts for comparison.”
