Tired of forking over $300 for embroidered team jackets and hats? Well, this new Brother Innov-IS 2800D is for you. This half sewing/half embroidery machine can take any pict file and transpose it into a format that can be automatically stitched into most fabrics. And therefore most clothes. The image can then be supported by three built in alphabets, a couple of dozen stitches, and a whole bunch of eye rings. And in a demo we saw, it can render impressive results.

Now, we are not going to tell you how to flatly steal from your favorite team by downloading their image files and sticking it in this baby and letting it do its thing. That would be wrong. But we also think charging $35 for a $5 tee-shirt or $175 for a $20 jacket is not exactly the most ethical thing either. So what you do with this info is up to you.

Be warned, not everything about this Innov-IS is optimized for sports fans. The thing comes with 12o some odd Disney designs — who needs that! — pre-installed. And it can be used for totally useless stuff like fixing a torn shirt or even making pants. But just think of the upside here. With just a bit of finessing, there is no reason the significant other can’t be both thrilled with a new sewing machine and be cranking out a bit of gray market sports memorabilia on weekends.

It really is a beautiful thing.
