Is it just us, or was this year’s World Series the low bar for fan driven technology in a major sporting event. Forget about how meaningless the Fox’s Pitch-Track was in verifying balls from strikes. Or that MLB cannot figure out to use instant replay properly. Just think about the lost opportunities in terms of explaining this series considering the available digital broadcast tools. How cool would it have been, for example, to use 3-D design options like, say ESPN Axis in these final games. Such a tool would have made it dead clear just how amazingly out of position both  Pedro Feliz and Brad Lidge were when Johnny Damon stole second and then third. And that ignores the string of wacky plays that ran through this series.

What is even odder here,  major league baseball has been a leader in new technology in sports. Its Web site remains the standard for bringing a web audience into sports. Because as it feels now, MLB, Fox and TBS didn’t seem to care enough to make the fall classic a fan immersive experience.

Sure, baseball is old-school. But calling instant replay innovative is just another cheap out.
